3. Sunday Worship Encounters are going well!!! We have had salvations in every encounter! New people are checking us out. It is a lot of work but it is well worth it! Volunteers, thank you for your hard work and faithfulness! Remember to be searching and seizing opportunities to invite people to come check us out. Make special effort! Take a few of our Grand Opening invitation cards and use them to invite people.
4. The cat is out of the bag – in December Church That Matters will give a huge Christmas gift to our city. We will bring in Sarah Roe, the Money Saving Queen who is featured on KOTV every week and has been on national TV programs. She teaches people how to literally save thousands on their grocery bills and how to look for bargains etc… She does seminars all over that usually cost participants anywhere from $10 to $30 per person. We are going to offer this for FREE! Even when I mentioned this to Sarah, she was blown away and literally in tears. She said this will be a HUGE blessing to our city. There is so much more to tell about this so stay tuned about how you can be a part and how God has blessed this already!
- Sarah also featured our CARE event on her website. Check it out at www.moneysavingqueen.com. Scroll down a little on her site and you will see it.
5. Way to go House Church at 193rd!!! They had a work day last Saturday to Matter to one of the families in their House Church. It was a great time of working together and accomplishing a task and helping fulfill our mission to be a church that matters to each other. If you are not involved in a House Church, you are missing out on being a part of these great opportunities. Get involved. It’s who we are!
Announcements October 3, 2010
- Monday night (OCTOBER 4), all of our House Churches are going to the state fair. We would love for you to join us and get the opportunity to meet some more people who are a part of Church That Matters. Everyone will be on their own until 7:15 pm when we will meet at the east side of the Oklahoma Stage so that we can attempt to sit together for the Third Day concert. Third Day is a contemporary Christian band who has won grammy awards and is very popular. They also include worship in their live shows. It will be a great time for everyone. Admission to the fair is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 – 12 and free for children under 5. If you cannot afford to go but would like to, please contact Pastor Rusty and we will help. We would love for you to come worship and hang out with us.
- October 16th is a day to Matter to our city! We will be giving out free bottled water and praying with people at the Sand Springs Soap Box Derby and will be providing free oil changes and hair care for single moms widows and military wives whose husbands are overseas. This is an incredible ministry opportunity and we need all hands on deck for it. So let us know where you would like to serve on that day. We need people for registration, men to help with the oil changes, a hospitality team to set up and maintain a room for those getting their oil changed and hair done, prayer teams, and more. Please contact us today about where you would like to serve or use the contact us form on the home page.
PLEASE LET US KNOW WHERE YOU WILL SERVE ON THIS DAY ASAP!!! THANKS
3. We have a limited amount of Church That Matters t-shirts available for $10. You can wear these on the CARE day as you serve at the oil change event or the derby. Get one at the next Worship Encounter Sunday.
Announcements September 21, 2010
- We are so close to our Grand Opening Worship Encounter! We have 10,000 postcard mailers going out all over the city this week, but the main responsibility for inviting people is still on you! People Reach People! Search and Seize the opportunities this week.
- All volunteers need to make sure to be ON TIME this Sunday so that we put our best foot forward having everything set up and looking good well before anyone else arrives. This will also give us a chance to be praying around the facility after all the physical work is done. That will help prepare our hearts for what is about to happen there.
- If you are a Kids That Matter volunteer, please check your email this week for updates and the schedule. All KTM volunteers should plan on helping with set-up these first few weeks so that we all know what to do.
- Don’t forget to keep Saturday, October 16th clear on your calendar. That is our Car and Hair CARE day for single moms, widows and military wives. It is also the date of the Sand Springs Soap Box Derby where we will set up to give out free water and pray with people there. It’s a day to matter! Be there!

1. I am blown away by God’s grace today! God just continues to bless and use CTM is such amazing ways. This morning I was talking to one of the guests we had in our worship Encounter Preview and she was so ecstatic about her experience there. She said she was in tears during the whole message and that I was talking straight to her and that she is that lost sheep. She is inviting all kinds of people to come to Grand Opening on September 26th.
Then I get a facebook message just a few minutes ago from a friend of mine who is pastor of Hope Church in Glenpool. His name is Gary Davis and here is the message he sent to me and a few other guys.
The young lady’s name is Tara Winningham and she came to our MILK booth at the Herbal Affair. When I was making follow-up phone calls she was really interested in our church. I asked her where she lived and she told me she was in Glenpool. I told her as much as I would love for her to come and bring her family to be a part of Church That Matters, it would be much more practical for her to find a church in her own community. I suggested she check out Gary’s church. She said immediately that she was blown away that I would suggest another church to her and that I wasn’t interested in just growing my own thing. I told her it is about the kingdom of God. She said she would check out Hope Church for sure.
I passed on her contact info to Gary and they did connect and she has been involved every since. Her husband is serving overseas in the military and the church there has been able to minister to her in this time. That is what I am talking about. God is using CTM in His Kingdom.
And then He is continuing to bless what we are doing here in Sand Springs. This morning I met with a pastor friend in the area. His name is Matt Blair. He is pastor of Solace Church in Berryhill. They are a 5 year old church that is growing incredible and God is blessing in amazing ways. He encouraged me and was asking about how we are doing and what are some of our needs. I told him we were going to have to purchase a projector before our Grand Opening. He said, we have an extra one, and he went and got it and said we can use it for as long as we need! Then he talked to me about doing a direct mail card to all the people in Sand Springs to advertise our grand opening. He said they sent them out for their opening when they launched and had a good response from it and made people aware of who they were and that they were there. And then get this… He offered to pay for the printing and mailing of a card for us to 10,000 homes in our city!!! WOW!!! What a kingdom heart and what a great way for God to show us that we are right in line with His heart. This is an incredible gift.
Now, that does not get you off the hook for inviting people yourself. That is more important than any card we could mail out! You are the ones who will reach people. As my friend Travis Lawley very clearly put it to me when we were talking about marketing and such, People reach people! He is right on. And you have got to make special effort to reach out, to search and seize! Don’t sit around the campfire roasting marshmallows and reading books about searching and singing songs about searching and downloading podcasts about searching, but NEVER DO ANY SEARCHING! Get out there and compel someone to come.
2. Mark your calendar for October 16. This is the date of the annual Soap Box derby in Sand Springs. This is a huge event with over 300 participants and hundreds of spectators. We will set up a booth and will hand out bottled water. This is also the date we have scheduled our 2nd Car and Hair CARE event. We will again offer free oil changes and hair care to single mothers and their children as well as widows and military wives whose husbands are serving overseas. We will need all hands on deck to be able to accomplish all this ministry on one date. Let’s BE THE CHURCH!!!
3. Our Worship Encounter Preview went great! Thanks to all who are involved behind the scenes setting up and tearing down ALL the equipment and signs and everything it takes to make it happen. It is a lot of work but well worth the effort. We had 8 first –time guests and had 1 decision made for sure!!!
4. Our Grand Opening Worship Encounter will be 2 weeks from this past Sunday! Search and Seize! Search out lost, unchurched people and seize the opportunity to invite them. EVERYONE is responsible for bringing SOMEONE!!! Who will you bring with you on September 26th? Cash in your chips, ask for a favor, get someone there!
5. If you do not already have a place (or several places) to serve on Sundays at our worship encounters, please find a spot. We need people to step up for the hospitality set-up and clean-up, greeters, set-up crew, children’s ministry set-up crew, and more. It takes us all to make it happen. Jump in and get your hands dirty for the cause! Email or call Pastor Rusty to find out where you can serve!

Text version of announcements:
1. Thanks to everyone who came out to Wes and Jody Brownfield’s house last night to help with painting and putting things together for this Sunday.
2. Our Worship Encounter Preview is this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Clyde Boyd Middle School. If we do not invite people, they will not come. Please make special effort to be inviting people this week. For the rest of the week, invite everyone you see from your cashier at Wal-Mart to the drive-thru people at Braum’s to your co-workers to the guy holding the cardboard sign that you pass every day on the corner. GO OUT OF YOUR WAY and OUT OF YOUR CONFORT ZONE to invite people. Especially invite your L3. Hopefully you have been investing in these relationships and praying for these individuals for the past 7 to 8 months and now is time to see some fruit coming out of your investing. Step out and invite them.
3. We are STILL in need of funds for our children’s ministry supplies. We have had a lot of expenses recently with the renting of the auditorium and the purchase of all the equipment and supplies needed to make this happen and for our children’s ministry especially. We are having to put some things on hold right now for our children’s ministry until we have the funds to go forward. You are all so faithful to tithe and we are so thankful for that. but we are asking you to give an OFFERING above and beyond your tithe to help with these needs. We need everyone to give SOME and we need SOME to give large significant amounts. This might mean some sacrifice. You might decide to not eat out for a month or two or maybe you will put off a trip you were planning and give the money instead or you may sell some things – whatever you can think of and the Lord would lay on your heart and bring to your mind!
4. We are asking everyone to choose one day between now and Sunday that you will commit to fast from sun up to sundown and pray for this Sunday. Pray for God’s annointing of everything we do Sunday. pray for Rusty and the worship leaders and greeters and set-up crew and children’s workers and hospitality team and everyone involved this week to be annointed by the Holy Spirit for this work He has called us to and prepared us for. Pray for lost people and people who may be turned off by church-as-usual to come and have a great experience. Pray that lost will be saved! Pray that all the last minute preparations will go smoothly. PRAY PRAY PRAY! Pray for those YOU WILL INVITE to have a soft heart toward your invitation. Pray that God’s kingdom will advance this weekend through our efforts and His blessing. Pray for details to come together. Fast and Pray!!!
Hope you are having a super week! Remember that this is worth your life!!!!!!!
Today Matters, so Matter Today!

Announcements August 23, 2010
1. Our 2nd Practice Worship Encounter went great Sunday! We have had very positive feedback from the guests who were there. Thanks to everyone who served on the teams to set-up, tear down, everything envolved in making it happen. it takes all the people of God to do all the work of God. If you have not yet found your place to serve, get with it. If you are not sure what you should do, talk to Rusty and he will help give you guidance
2. Our actual PREVIEW worship encounter will be Sunday September 12. Begin telling people and inviting people. We will have publicity starting in the city soon.
3. Be sure to keep checking churchthatmatters.com for updated announcements and information.
4. It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to be praying for and reaching out to your L3 people between now and our Preview Encounter. If you are unfamiliar with what L3 is all about, email or call Rusty and he will fill you in.
5. If anyone is aware of anyone who has recently remodeled and office or is planning on doing so soon, we are still in need of some office furniture for the new Church That Matters office located at 114 N Roosevelt in Sand Springs. We need some office chairs, sitting chairs, a couch or loveseat, bookshelves, a small computer desk, a vacuum cleaner, microwave, and some curtains/window treatments. If anyone has or knows of any of this available, please contact Rusty
Announcements August 10, 2010
1. This Sunday is our scheduled “Worship Service” where we worship God by serving people. We have had an opportunity come to us to host a blood drive for the Oklahoma Blood Institute. They will bring their big mobile blood unit to the Triangle in sand Springs and park right in front of Troy and Trena’s office. This will go from 9a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. This is a great opportunity to do something that matters.
According to OBI’s website, there is a 95% chance that you will need blood products in your lifetime. Whether it is because of illness or an accident, this is a vital part of our medical care system.
You may plan of giving blood Sunday and/or working the canteen where we will serve cookies and juice to those who have donated blood. The canteen will be set up in Troy and Trena’s office. This will be a great opportunity to share the gospel one on one and have other conversations about faith with people. We will also utilize that time to pray specifically for the needs of those who come that day. Since this will be happening during traditional church time on a Sunday morning, it is very likely that those we have contact with will not have a church family. Please plan on being a part of this event. Get there by 8:45 a.m. and be prepared to serve.
2. We have a CTM office!!! Others may be able to help as I move some things into our new office. That’s right, Church That Matters is going to have an office (at least temporarily to see how it goes) in the downtown Sand Springs area. This will give me a place to study and work out of and will give a place for people to come for information and/or spiritual counsel, etc… It will help establish even more our presence in the community.
This office is in the tower connected to the Shelter Insurance office across from the Post Office. Alan Copeland is the owner of the building and is the Shelter Agent. He is an incredible Christian man and is really working with us to make this possible for us and for the kingdom. He and I have spent time praying together in one of the rooms in the office that overlooks the city. It is a great opportunity. So Sunday, if we have enough people, we will move some of my books and office stuff up into the office. We will need plenty of help.
If you know of anyone (individuals or businesses) who have or are planning to remodel and have extra office equipment (desks, chairs, bookshelves, tables, furniture, etc…) they are looking to get rid of, please let me know. We do not currently have any of this. I want this office to be nice and up to date. Thanks!
****PACK A LUNCH FOR SUNDAY FOR YOU!!! We will not officially break for lunch. We will work through until the blood drive is over and cleaned up.
CHILDCARE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. I WILL INFORM YOU AS ARRANGEMENTS ARE FINALIZED.
3. Our next Worship Encounter Preview/Practice will be Sunday August 22. This one will focus primarily on our children’s ministry. We will work on our processes for registration/check in and set up of the rooms etc… This will also give those who are on set up team for the sound system and such in the auditorium to get some practice in. If you are on the set up crew, plan on being there by 7:45 a.m. We will have an abbreviated time of corporate worship with a short message, but our main purpose is preparation on this one. If you have invited guests, make sure they understand that this is not fully what they should expect each week once we are going full blast.
4. Tuesday Night Concert at the Triangle, August 17th. We will set up a table at the concert on the triangle and will offer free water. We will also serve wherever else needed by picking up litter etc… This is a great opportunity to get out and be the church in our city. These concerts are well attended and we can make great connections if we get after it.
5. L3 - ’nuff said”
6. Every Man’s Battle group is still meeting on Thursday mornings at Crescent Cafe. Come at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast and great discussion of how we are determining to win the war with list and sexual temptation one victory at a time.
Announcements July 19-Aug 2, 2010

- Our next “worship service” where we worship God by serving people will be Sunday August 15. We will start at 10 am and go to 4 p.m. Please plan on being there! This was a great ministry last time and we got a lot of positive feedback from the community.
- Our next Preview/Practice Corporate Worship Encounter will be August 22 at Clyde Boyd Middle School. This one will focus on our processes for our children’s ministry and will give our set up/tear down crew an opportunity to practice their work. We will have worship and a brief message but it is still not a full preview of what we will have each week.
- Jared and Lauren Hard will have a CD release party at Prayer Mountain on July 30. They will have some other special musical guests and friends and family there. It would mean a lot for you to come and celebrate with them.
- Make a special effort to reach out to one of your L3 this week. Do something tangible like sending them a gift or a card or letter or taking them out for lunch, etc… Share the love of Christ with them in a practical way. Be sure to tell them why you are doing it.
Announcements July 12, 2010
- HOUSE CHURCH WILL BE ON TUESDAY NEXT WEEK, JULY 20.We will meet all together at the triangle in Sand Springs to suppport the Tyler Spradlin Band and Jared Hard as they perform for the Third Tuesdays on the Triangle concert series provided by the Sand Springs Area Chamber of Commerce. We will also represent Church That Matters as we will have a table set up there. We will hand out free bottled water as well to serve concert goers. Bring lawnchairs or blankets. Rib Crib and other vendors will be there with food available for purchase or you could bring a picnic dinner for you and your family. This will be a great opportunity to meet some new people in the city. Invite your L3 to come with you. It starts at 7:30, but be there early to get a good seat and help set up for our ministry there.
- Falls Creek was a great success. There were a great number of decisions for Christ made in our cabin. At least one of our teenagers gave his heart to Christ and was saved and several others made decisions to change their lifestyles to reflect the life they have in Christ. Pray for these students to have the courage and support to live out their commitments.
- The band has made it to Arizona and is leading worship for the youth camp there. Thanks to Jared and Lauren Hard for offering and allowing the band to use their new van to do this mission trip after their vehicle broke down. This is the kingdom of God in action. Pray for a great harvest on this trip.
- Jared Hard’s cd has officially been released. If you have not yet purchased it, be sure to do so. The music and lyrics will be a blessing to you and will challenge you. Stay tuned for details on an official CD release party to beheld at Prayer Mountain on July 30.
- Our first preview worship gathering is scheduled for Sunday, July 18 at Clyde Boyd Middle School. Again, this would more appropriately be called a Practicerather than preview. It is ok if you invite people, but this one is really meant for our core group, band and volunteers to work out processes and bugs. If you invite people or have already invited people just explain to them what is happening. We are focusing on the things that happen in and around our corporate worship time for this day. We will need everyone to come at 9 a.m. to walk through the building, discuss different roles and responsibilities, ministries (greeters, etc), figure out what signs and such we may need, etc… Please plan on being there that day. We will have worship and a message but it will be abbreviated. That is why it is not a true preview, more of a practice. Childcare will be taken care of this Sunday by volunteers from New Beginnings and some others. The next Practice will be on August 22. That one will focus on the children’s ministry. Then in September we will have a full PREVIEW with all guns firing! It is an exciting time for Church That Matters!
- Please be praying for and reaching out to your L3 people. L3 is a major part of our strategy and focus. If you do not know what L3 is, email Rusty and he will fill you in.
- The men’s Thursday morning breakfast group has begun a study called Every Man’s Battle. It is not too late to get involved. Even if you cannot make Thursday mornings at 6:30, you can get a copy of the book and join in the discussion as you see other men from CTM and on facebook on the Every Man’s Battle group page. Call Rusty if you need a book. He has some extras available.
- Stay tuned as the children’s ministry team assigns duties for the Kids That Matter Event coming up on August 7. They will be contacting you to talk about your involvement in this exciting opportunity. Please pray for them as they prepare.
Announcements June 29, 2010

Our teenagers will be going to Falls Creek July 5. Please prayfor our teenagers and the Tyler Spradlin Band as they participate in this incredible week.
Our first Corporate Worship Gathering Preview will be Sunday, July 18 at Clyde Boyd Middle School at 10:45 a.m. This might be more appropriately called a PRACTICE rather than a PREVIEW. This Practice/Preview will focus mainly on the logistics of the corporate worship time for adults such as setting up the sound system and equipment, getting a feel for the building and how we can best utilize it for worship, etc… This is not a just “come to church” time. This will be a time for our core group to see where they fit in to help make these gatherings a great experience for those we will be reaching. We need our core group to be there at 8:30 that morning to begin walking through our processes for greeting guests, setting up, and assessing needs for signs etc…
Our Kids That Matter Outreach Event will be Saturday, August 7th. PLEASE mark your calendars and plan on being a part of this important ministry. We need ALL HANDS ON DECK to make this possible. Monday, June 21 was National Go Skateboarding Day. In honor of that, Church That Matters made a $500 donation to the skate park fund in Sand Springs. The parks department has been working hard to raise funds to provide a skate park for all the skateboarders in our city. This will mean a lot to them. Your tithes and offerings make it possible for us to continue giving to causes like these that make a difference in our city and help build bridges to our community for the gospel to be shared. Thank you for your faithfulness and sacrifice.
Our teenagers will be going to Falls Creek July 5. There is a mandatory parent/camper meeting Sunday at 5 p.m. at Broadway Baptist Church. The final payment is due at that time and all forms will be distributed at that time. If you are a parent of a teen going, plan on being there. If you know a parent of a teen going, let them know about this important meeting. Please prayfor our teenagers and the Tyler Spradlin Band as they participate in this incredible week.
Our first Corporate Worship Gathering Preview will be Sunday, July 18 at Clyde Boyd Middle School at 10:45 a.m.

CTM in the news – The Sand Springs Leader printed a story about our “worship service” from June 13. Take a look at it and celebrate God’s faithfulness to us. We pray this will give us more opportunities to share the gospel with our city.

Take special note of something you appreciate in our city or someone who has made our city a better place. Please email Rusty a list of those you have written letters to during this month.
Thank you for praying for Rusty this past Sunday as he preached in Springfield. There was one salvation decision made and a lot of good opportunities to connect with this church. We are praying about partnering with them for some mission projects together in both of our communities.
Shocked:The Lady Sandite basketball teams had a great time at the Tulsa Shock game last Thursday. Wes and Jody Brownfield and Dusty Hope joined us and represented us well. Here is a letter from Coach Bob Banfield:
“Thank you again for a wonderful experience for our young ladies in being able to attend the Tulsa Shock-San Antonio game at the BOK Center. Thanks also for the Pizza. It was delicious. For many of us, that was our first time inside the BOK Center. You made that possible!!! As coaches we encourage our players to dream big dreams about their play and that of the team. This was truly a dream come true. In all probability none of our players will ever play in the WNBA. The opportunity to see that game puts a face on those dreams. From the coaches and players of the Lady Sandites thanks for your kindness to all who played a part in us seeing the Tulsa Shock.” Bob Banfield- Lady Sandite Basketball

If you have not followed the Lord in baptism as a step of obedience After your salvation and would like to, contact Rusty and we can work it out for you to be baptized as well. Or if you are not sure about what baptism is all about, contact Rusty and he will visit with you about it.
PARKING NEEDS: If anyone has or knows of a safe place we might be able to park 2 trailers, please let Rusty know. One of them will be holding our sound system. It will be important to have a safe location.
SHOCKING: This Thursday, our church will be providing tickets for 33 Lady Sandite basketball players to go to a Tulsa Shock WNBA game. The Lady Sandites went to the 6A playoffs this season for the first time in many years. This is a great opportunity to congratulate them and reach out to them and their parents. They have already expressed how big of a deal this is to them that we would think of doing this for them. It is because of your giving that it is possible for us to reach out in this unconventional way. Thank you for your faithfulness.
Don’t forget MAYKE IT MATTER MONTH!: Only half a month left to write letters to people in our city to tell them how much we appreciate them for what they do. MAYKE a difference!
On the road to Emmaus:Pray for Rusty as he preaches this Sunday in Springfield, Missouri at Emmaus Church. They are a 3 year old church who have been instrumental in encouraging and giving us counsel in our church plant.
Gideons Army: Please ask one person/family to join Gideon’s Army of Giving this week. If you believe in what God has called us to do, get busy seeking partners! Just ask. You might be surprised who would be excited to be a part of something like this. Details are on the main site or at gideonsarmygiving.com
